Palaeoenvironmental Supervisor

We have an exciting opportunity for a Palaeoenvironmental Supervisor to join the Archaeological team in Barnard Castle, the home of our environmental sample processing facility and post-excavation services.

This role will benefit from exposure to a board range of projects from across the UK and sites of all types and periods. The position will take an active and positive lead in the development and growth of the work in a variety of activities.

The opportunity…

As the Palaeoenvironmental Supervisor you will assess and analyse charred and waterlogged botanical remains and report on the results, undertake and oversee soil sample processing, and provide specialist advice on a range of archaeological sites.

Other responsibilities will include the programming and coordination of soil sample processing in our dedicated facility and the maintenance of professional standards. You will work in collaboration with other specialists and the Post-Excavation Manager to deliver projects on behalf of our clients and to the highest standard.

What we’re looking for…

We’re looking for an excellent team worker who can prioritise effectively and work against project time allocations and deadlines. Good knowledge of British archaeology and associated industry standards is required to add value as an expert in the field. An ability to communicate the importance of the work we undertake to an academic and popular audience is desirable; to promote our national heritage and realise the social value of the projects we work on.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in environmental archaeology or related subject, with experience of sample processing, the identification and reporting of plant remains (seeds, grains and wood charcoal) and site-based sample collection strategies.
