We provided a Landscape Strategy for a vibrant waterfront residential development

We developed an exciting Landscape Strategy for a dynamic public realm, as part of a vibrant waterfront residential development in central Sheffield.

Overview

Our landscape team developed an exciting Landscape Strategy for the scheme, which was taken forward into detailed hard and soft landscape proposals.

The proximity of the site to the Porter Brook was celebrated through artwork designed by Campbell Design & Engineering that encapsulated the site’s industrial heritage.

The contemporary landscape design was fully co-ordinated with the architects and engineers to successfully deliver the proposals through RIBA Stages 4 to 6, with completion in autumn 2023.

The Client

The client was Winvic Construction Limited., a multidisciplinary main contractor excelling in the delivery of construction and civil engineering projects across the UK.

The Challenge

There were challenges associated with tying into the existing levels and the existing bridge over the Porter Brook to ensure it met the necessary access standards. In addition, the existing culvert that ran under part of the site required careful consideration owing to the reduced available build depths. Further challenges were presented with regards to meeting the required minimum access widths along the footway next to the Brook.

The Solution

We overcame the various challenges through collaboration with the engineers to modify the proposed levels and the method of constructing the surfacing over the culvert to reduce the depths. We also supported the client and wider design team to achieve a satisfactory solution for the access requirements.

Client Benefits

We successfully discharged the landscape planning condition and delivered the scheme on time.
