We are now a Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) Registered Organisation

Ecus communications team

Ecus is immensely excited to announce that we are now a CIfA Registered Organisation.

CIfA’s Registered Organisation scheme is a unique quality assurance scheme.  We are proud to have received this mark of recognition for our commitment to professional standards and for our expertise in the field. This represents a significant milestone for Ecus, with an archaeology team of over 70 archaeological and heritage specialists nationally, which has built upon the acquisition of Northern Archaeological Associates (NAA) in 2021.

The CIfA inspection report was very complimentary about the integration of NAA within Ecus. They highlighted on our culture, communication, our enthusiastic and engaged staff, good on-site training, and community engagement.

Andy Norton, Regional Director and Head of Ecus Archaeology explains:

Receiving our Registered Organisation status means that we are firmly seated at the table among other sector-leading organisations, and that we are well-positioned to shape procedures and protocol for the profession. It’s also a clear demonstration that the comprehensive archaeology services we can offer to our clients are second to none. CIfA Registered Organisations demonstrate the ability to provide informed and reliable advice, execute schemes of work appropriate to the circumstances, minimising uncertainty, delay and cost, act ethically and comply with professional standards.  At Ecus we achieve and surpass this with our innovative service provision, helping to facilitate cost-effective, sustainable and safe ways of working.

Adding to this, Managing Director Kit Hawkins said:

Becoming a CIfA Registered Organisation underlines the standard that our archaeology team works to, both in the field and office, and represents another impressive milestone for the team. Achieving this standard is a reflection of the skill and commitment of our highly competent and motivated team, and serves to provide further assurance to our clients, in addition to our wide ranging quality and industry leading accreditations. For example, we have been undertaking drone surveys at Ecus since 2019 to streamline the delivery of inspections and surveys. . Our survey team also includes an in-house geophysical team, which means that the necessary expertise, resources, personnel and equipment are always at hand for all our survey projects.
